If Ben Hogan was only 5'7 140 lbs, and could crush a golf ball,How much does body size really matter in golf?

NONE!!! IF YOU MAKE SOLID CONTACT AND HAVE EVEN A POOR SWING SPEED THE BALL WILL STILL FLY... CONTACT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A GOLF SWING, WITHOUT IT YOU WILL SUCK!!!|||It doesn't. It is all in head speed. Which has nothing to do with body size. It has to do with releasing the stored energy in your muscles after you back stroke. My 10 year old out drives most adults.|||The only things that matter are club head speed and the speed at which the ball comes off of it.|||its all in the talent|||The answer you're looking for here is all in the wrists. I'll take a side road here and tell you why. A guy I played baseball with (starts at a D-1 college now) hit a LOT of home runs, and hit for a really great average....but he is 5'7" or 5'8", and might weigh 150 pounds. His wrists are so quick though, that he can swing the bat fast at impact, which is all that matters.

But back to golf....great contact at mpact is going to be more important than anything, but since a lot of people can make great contact, what is left is swing speed. The weight of a driver isn't going to change while you hold it, and you are never going to make "better than perfect" contact...so the only other physical entity is clubhead speed. If you have wrists that fire quickly, and make good contact, the ball is going to go farther than if you can't swing as quick and make good contact. There are many factors determining clubhead speed, and unfortunately for the smaller guys out there, size is one. A 6'6" guy (like most long drive champs) can generate better clubhead speed with the same swing tempo, because of how long their arms are, but if a smaller guy can have a faster tempo through the ball, he can make up for it.....the real pain is getting consistant when you swing that hard....as Tiger Woods knows all too well. Its Golf Law that when you swing SUPER hard, you get eratic and mis-hit or create some sort of flaw in your swing, resulting in a missed fairway, and ultimately, a higher score. If you want to hit farther, work on your forearms and abs, so you can have quick wrists and get your body through the ball at impact. But if you were just curious as to how size effects distance, I think you have an answer.|||all you need is hours of practice and body size does not matter at all
