Why do people want to see someone "knock off" or "challenge" Tiger Woods so badly?

Why is "unfortunate" that Tiger Woods is so dominant and the Tour needs more competition against him?

Did Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus all have the same discussions made about them? If so, then I'll understand. It seems like they were much more popular than Tiger. Why?|||I'm sure that you will leave no stone unturned in your search for a 'racist' angle. Did you check in the lint- catcher in the dryer?|||Your question is somewhat of a contradiction.

Tiger is by far the most popular golfer ever and is on pace to have the most wins ever. He's already #1 all-time in money and holds many other records.

Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus are legends in their own right and probably went through similar situations in their careers.

Golfers that want to be the best have to beat the best.

It's not unfortunate that Tiger is dominating the PGA tour. It's making the PGA tour better than ever.|||TROLL|||Sports are more entertaining when there is a competition; Tiger Woods is in a way TOO good and you just expect him to win most of the time...

Golf was not the sensation it is now when Hogan, Palmer or Nicklaus were winning...|||Popular? yes More popular than Tiger? no way. watch the crowds this weekend. there has been an enormous increase in the amount of fans since Tiger came around. the reason for wanting him to fall is probably due to being jealous.green with envy. i dare he do something so much better than i. you just watch, he'll get his.|||We all want to beat the guy on top, because that makes us the best, then you have to fight to stay there yourself.|||As much as Jack Nicklaus won, he finished 2nd about as often. People did not fold nearly as often when playing againts Jack as golfers do when they play against Tiger.|||Competition is great for any sport but just like any sport you always want to see the under dog come out on top thats why the best is there to be beaten|||The no. 1 player always has a target on their back, especially if they're dominant. I don't see that as bad, it's just being competitive. Everyone at the professional level wants to be the best, and many fans like seeing the underdog win, regardless of who it is.

One reason people want to see someone get close to him is to make the tournaments more suspenseful and exciting. Watching 2 guys that are a head above everyone else battle it out is always more interesting than watching one guy win by a mile every time. For example, Mike Tyson was one of the most exciting champions in boxing history. But watching him knock out fighter after fighter in the first or second round was not nearly as exciting as the epic battles between Ali and Frasier.

There was a huge spike in the interest in golf when Nicklaus played, and much of that can be attributed to the 'rivalry' between Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. That's often why commentators will talk about wanting to see someone step up and challenge Tiger on a consistent basis.|||Because when someone is too good at something, it gets boring.|||It is human namture to hate someone who dominates. Why do you think people hate the Yankees? Not very many people liked the Lakers, nor did people like the Cowboys when they were great. Plus not to many people like to watch a victory lap, they want to see someone have to struggle and take risk in order to succeed. When Tiger dominates, he can play safe...that is not fun to watch. If the Americans didn't keep losing I'd actually enjoy the Ryder Cup, those guys figured out how to beat Tiger...give him a partner!
