Golfsmith's Custom Clubs?

I currently have a set of ben hogan edge pros L-3 iron and one of the golfsmiths in my town are willing to trade my set for a full set of their custom fit clubs with custom heads, shafts, and grips.. all of my choosing.. i already have a set-up in mind..however im not sure if i should go through with the trade without actually playing some of these clubs on the course.. any golfers get fitted here or have heard about them? btw im not a complete hack. i'm aiming to break 80s these days|||Certainly a reasonable request - to play some on the course. If they're willing to trade you straight up, nothing wrong with asking to test what they're going to put in your hands. I'd say don't trade unless you know they're better.

Essentially it boils down to the fit of the clubs. If they say they are custom fit, as a trade I'd be questioning the quality of the club fitting, or the expertise of the fitter. A proper fitting for irons should not take less than 45 minutes, and should involve hitting and testing different specifications. If they're just doing a static measurement fit it's a cop-out.

If you're aiming to break 80, I'd say make sure what you're getting in trade actually is better, and not just shiny and new.|||Golfsmith is a reputable (if not the leader) in golf components/fitting. Jeff Sheets, author of "The Perfect Fit" (and one of the best in his field), worked for them for years. Their Snake Eyes line is a top-notch lineup.

From my experiences, you can make this transaction with confidence, if you want to. They'll likely let you test a club or more, if you ask.
