His left arm is even flatter since he's been dead for 9 years.|||Seems to me, that having a flat left arm, would make it easier to sq. @ impact. The more simplified the back swing, the simpler it is to return to the address position.|||For starters, he did the opposite of whatever he did to get into that flat position at the top of his backswing. Second, he led with his left wrist through impact. Third, his hands were ahead of the ball at impact which delofted the clubface thus lowering the ball flight (which is easier to control in the winds of Texas...or elsewhere). His impact position has everything to do with his weak left hand grip.
If you really study Mr. Hogan's swing, the you will realize that not only was his swing VERY simple, it also had very little room for error, was very efficient, and did not rely heavily on timing like most professional swings. Plus, it was near impossible to duck hook the ball with his swing.
The weak left hand mentioned earlier allowed Hogan to hit the ball as hard as he could with his hands without the ball turning left! This was a GINORMOUS breakthrough!!
